The Beginning...

Although the company has existed since 1865 as an international transport firm, Bucher & company Inc. as a travel agency was founded in 1932. It has survived the years of depression and two world wars. In the early twenties, the late Mr. Othon Rast joined the company as an employee, worked his way up, and gradually bought shares. In 1963 he became the major share-holder and the company, now known as Bucher Travel Inc., was taken over by the Rast family. His son, Mr. Harold U. Rast, managed the firm for over 40 years until August 2001 and remained president of the administrative board until June 2006.

The company is managed since the retirement of the president, by the two share holders Mr. Werner Weber and Mr. Mario Wuersch. Both had been working for the firm together for more than 45 years in a managing position.

 

The old Days...

Bucher Travel Inc. has experienced the various stages of development in travel business. There were the years of immigration from all over Europe to the United States and other overseas countries. Bucher Travel Inc. handled their visas and steamship passages. In the days when travel was still something for rich people only, Bucher Travel Inc. already owned a large fleet of private cars with English speaking drivers.

 

Today...

Times have changed and Bucher Travel Inc. has kept up with the pace of travel development. The company employs about 30 people counting drivers, guides and office personnel. Bucher Travel Inc. is the only Virtuoso-On Site and the only Destination Management Company in Switzerland with their own fleet of modern deluxe air-conditioned coaches, sedan, minibus and minivan.
